Eco day retreat// Portuguese Bend

My family was here over the holidays and it was wonderful showing them the beautiful coastal treasures that California has to offer. The kids had a blast. I think the more urban and complex my life gets the more I appreciate just being one with nature. Sounds silly, but I feel so happy when I am in a place like this.

One of my favorite places near Los Angeles is Portuguese Bend wildlife retreat near Palos Verdes. About 45 minutes from LA near San Pedro. Amazing starfish, Sea Anemones and Dolphins. I highly recommend. A great place for a picnic. Picture perfect.

AOL The Perfect Shot is out

In December I worked on a show for AOL-Motorolla called the Perfect Shot. The segments are starting to air. Each segment discusses a different technique for photographing children and families. For example, lighting, composition, digital capture, etc. It was a lot of fun and a lot more work than I anticipated. I have a new found appreciation for actors and "hosts". Wow, I had no idea there were that many takes required to get a shot. I'm pleased to say that I am happiest behind the camera, focusing my attention on my adorable subjects. It was a great experience and I think the shows came out great. My producer Jen and I concepted all the content and it really does teach real people how to photograph their kids. Check them out.

NYC with the family

For Thanksgiving break I took the family back to NYC and we had a blast. We went to Museums, restaurants, Central Park, GREASE on Broadway and saw old friends. Nova loved it.

AOL: behind the scenes in the studio

Here are some behind the scenes shots of the taping in studio. This was a lot more production than I expected and it was a lot of hard work. I have a new found appreciation for actors and hosts everywhere. My uber producer-director Jennifer Abel and I wrote the copy before each scene. Stressful. She is amazing and works 80 hour weeks, never once lost her cool. After 15 takes of "acting" my lines I think it turned out OK. If you notice, I had to wear a turtleneck to cover my tattoos and appear more "midwestern" . I didn't mind, but still think it's funny that they picked me. I am just as curious as anyone to see the final product.

Behind the scenes on my AOL show: the Perfect Shot

Here are some on location behind the scenes pick ups from the taping of my new AOL show the perfect shot. The show starts airing Dec. 1 and I'll put a link on this blog when its up. Motorolla was one of the sponsors of the shoot. In the show, i host and teach families how to photograph their kids and pets. I really didn't think I would become the poster child for soccer moms everywhere. I kind of told them I was a rocker mom. I guess styling and hair and makeup can convert anyone right?
